Christopher Associates introduces the KDS-101 bench-top solder dross recovery system from Koki Tec Corporation (Saitama, Japan). According to the company the KDS-101 offers a safe, simple and inexpensive method to recover purified solder from dross in all soldering operations, but especially in PCB fabrication and assembly. With RoHS requirements pressing for improved efficiencies, materials costs at historic highs and the demand by end users to reduce manufacturing costs, dross recovery helps reduce materials usage and improve the economics of the process. Recovered solder can be immediately reused and dross disposed of more efficiently.
Mania Technologies Belgium introduces UCAM Version 8.2.1. According to Mania this tool can increase PCB CAM automation and improve shop-floor yields. Key features include; solder-mask optimizer, robust solderability, true Z-axis adjacency, increased security for flying-probe testing without time-penalty, advanced test-point staggering, improve automatic fixture design performance, more options for image transformation, improved layer alignment, and more automatic solutions. New input functionality include; enhanced Gerber input and extra Excellon functionality. New display functionality include; clearer on-screen visualization of complex builds and real-time graphic measurement. Also, Ucam v8.2 supports Windows Vista in fast native mode.

The Automatic Coupon Generator is said to speed impedance test coupons generation compared to manual or scripted systems. Designed for use with Speedstack PCB or Speedstack Si PCB stackup design and documentation systems. Imports complete stack-up designs directly from Speedstack, and compiles them with the user’s preferred coupon format and chosen test probe style. Automatically produces an RS-274x extended Gerber file and drill file, which can be exported to the CAM system.
Traditional black oxide processes are making a comeback. In some applications, according to HMS Höllmüller, classic black oxide process are being reinstalled to improve process reliability.
The HMS ComTech process equipment has a titanium module that can run at higher temperatures associated with the oxide treatment step. According to HMS Höllmüller, higher operating temperatures combined with a unique solution application mechanism and special flooding system results in a homogeneous surface treatment and uniform oxide development with improved bonding characteristics.
The HMS Black Oxide equipment can provide a scratch-proof surface with reduced “pink-ring effect.” The uniform oxide surface is easy to inspect. For the circuit-board manufacturer, this means considerably fewer rejects and better subsequent processing.
Circuit Components Inc. (CCI) releases a design guide for custom laminated bus bars. This design guide, written by the Bussco Bus Bars Engineering team of CCI, is intended to provide general guidelines for all those involved in the procurement or design of custom laminated bus bars. It covers design and product construction considerations. It contains useful formulas and data for the typical materials used in the construction of bus bars. A design example explains the use of formulas for the calculation of current, minimum dimensions, and properties to meet a specific customer application, including electrical, environmental and mechanical requirements.
Viking Pump, Inc. has introduced the “RS” series of 1,600 GPM pumps which the company claims can develop pressures to 200 PSI, operate with viscosities up to 2,000,000 SSU and function with fluids at temperatures from -120°F to 800°F. Models include the RS324A (cast iron), RS323A (steel) and RS327A (316 stainless steel).
The company reports that the pump design features sealing options that include cartridge seals, component mechanical seals or packing, and allows changes in seal types in the field. The enlarged bearing housing provides in-line access to bearings and seals, and allows adjustment of end clearances.
Available jacketing options include the bracket, casing, flanges, head and relief valve. The jacketing areas allow for claimed rapid heating and faster startup using steam or hot oil. Fully jacketed, the RS provides uniform temperature control for your critical processes, and is suited for use in applications including asphalt, chemical, oilseed and petroleum processing, rubber, resins, coatings and adhesives.
