Douglas Electrical Components, Inc. introduced a new solution for hermetically sealing a variety of circuit board styles, including flex, rigid and hybrid circuits. According to the company, the system is ideal for high-volume applications with certain space constraints or weight requirements. These hermetically sealed circuit boards allow for increased conductor density, while providing a smaller, lighter and less expensive solution.

By sealing directly to the circuit as opposed to each wire, the Douglas Electrical Components solution can either increase the number of conductors used in the same size housing or reduce the size of the housing for the same conductor count. The method takes advantage of a low-cost circuit board manufacturing process making the solution more cost-effective than wire feedthrough.

Additionally, by sealing directly to the circuit board, electrical connection points can be eliminated, which minimizes voltage drops and any associated labor needed to make and test the wire-to-circuit connection point.

RF Micro Devices Inc. introduces RF3021, RF3023, RF3024 and RF3025, high isolation broadband switches. The symmetric RF switches are designed to operate on multiple market segments, including cellular infrastructure, WiFi and antenna tuning applications for mobile devices.

High performance is attained through the use of Gallium Arsenide pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor technology. Features include an on-chip driver, enabling a single voltage control line.

The RF3021 and RF3025 are symmetric core-pole, double-throw switches with very high isolation and single-bit control. They are housed in a 16-pin, 3 mm by 3 mm QFN package.

The RF3023 and RF3024 switches feature low insertion loss and moderate isolation. They are in 6-lead SC70 packages.

The RF3025 is an absorptive switch featuring a 50 ohm termination in the off-state.

GOEPEL electronic introduces the JULIET family of integrated stand-alone production testers. Test electronics and basic mechanics are combined in compact desktop systems. The systems are available in two versions: JULIET-Base and JULIET-Standard.

Features for the JULIET-Base include 120 I/O channels, two TAPs and a scan performance of 16 MHz. JULIET-Standard features 240 I/O channels, four TAPs and a scan performance of 50 MHz.

Both systems provide four independently programmable UUT voltages including an effective adaptation area of 310 mm by 210 mm. Standard UUT adaptations over needle contacts is achieved through an integrated exchangeable-adaptor appliance with type recognition.

Molex Inc. introduces the HDMI Type D Micro connector, the industry’s first miniaturized connector solution for delivering high definition video and images from mobile devices to flat panel screens.

The connector satisfies the electrical and mechanical specifications of HDMI Specifications 1.4. It is designed to provide portable products with a fully functioning, 19-pin connector. At about half the size of the current Type C connector, the Type D delivers equivalent mechanical strength and electrical characteristics.

The Media and Precision Technology Co of Dainippon Screen Mfg Co Ltd has released PI-9500, a printed circuit board (PCB) pattern inspection system. The PI-9500 can inspect fine-line boards with lines and spaces as low as 7.5µm. The company claims the system has the world’s fastest inspection speed. The PI-9500 can inspect up to 49, 7.5µm fine-line circuit board images per hour. Automated inspection reduces preparation time. A new inspection algorithm improves detection capability for opens and shorts. Improved illumination improves the image capture.
