TAIPEI, TAIWAN -- Unimicron Technology's second quarter net profits rose 18% sequentially to NT$1.41 billion ($48.6 million).

The PCB manufacturer reported consolidated revenues of NT$15.93 billion ($548.8 million) in the quarter, up 4% sequentially. Gross margin rose 100 basis points sequentially to 16.4% on higher capacity utilization and ASPs.

Unimicron said third-quarter sequential growth in IC substrates would be flat to slightly higher, while HDI board sales would increase 10% to 15%.

Unimicron is the world's largest PCB fabricator, according to Dr. Hayao Nakahara's NT-100, to be published next week by PCD&F.
