MOSCOW, ID – Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories has begun site preparation for a new $50 million, 250,000-square-foot electronic device manufacturing facility at its Schwartz Campus, expanding capacity to meet growing global demand for infrastructure protection systems.
The new building will be constructed south of the company’s printed circuit board factory and is expected to significantly increase production of electronic devices used to protect, monitor, and control electric power systems and other critical infrastructure. Local contractor Motley-Motley has started early site work, and Bernardo Wills Architects is leading the design. Full construction is slated to begin this summer, with completion targeted for late 2027.
SEL President Dave Whitehead said the investment reinforces the company’s long-term commitment to Idaho and the surrounding region. Hiring will roll out in phases starting in summer 2027 as manufacturing lines are commissioned. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to employ approximately 1,000 workers.
SEL currently operates electronic device factories in Washington, Idaho, Indiana and Illinois.
