BANNOCKBURN, IL — North American electronics manufacturing services shipments in July were up 22.7% versus a year ago, but fell 3.2% sequentially, IPC announced today.

Bookings in July rose 20.6% year-over-year and decreased 6.4% from the previous month.

The book-to-bill ratio was 1.39, down 20 basis points from June but well above the benchmark 1.0 level indicating future growth. The ratio is calculated by dividing the value of orders booked over the past three months by the value of sales billed during the same period from companies in IPC’s survey sample.

“Demand momentum picked up a bit for the EMS industry in July, but orders are down slightly through the first half of 2022,” said Shawn DuBravac, chief economist, IPC. “The North American EMS industry continues to face supply chain challenges as indicated by the high book-to-bill ratio, but there are small signs of progress as shipments are up two percent in the first half of year.”
