MULINO, OR – Sunstone Circuits received the SMT VISION Award, in the Design/Manufacturing Software category, for its PCB123 design software.

Presented at this year's IPC APEX Expo, the award recognizes excellence within the surface mount industry. Products were judged by SMT based on industry challenges, quality, creative application, cost, performance and throughput.

PCB123, part of the Sunstone ECOsystem Design Environment, allows designers to produce working prototypes in less time and with better access to PCB manufacturing services.
MARLBOROUGH, MA -- DownStream Technologies, LLC has announced the release of CAM350 XL, a unified suite of tools for PCB post processing. CAM350 XL combines technologies from both CAM350 and BluePrint-PCB applications to create an integrated solution that facilitates the release of a PCB design into manufacturing.

According to DownStream, CAM350 XL focuses on five key areas in the post-processing of  PCB designs: Design and Gerber verification for manufacturing; Tooling Aid output generation including Gerber, ODB++, solder and paste masks, and NC Drill and Mill; PCB documentation; Release Package creation and distribution; and ECO automation. It supports these functions for both the PCB- and Panel-level designs.

Rick Almeida, one of DownStream’s founders commented, “Until now, little advancement has been made on improving the post-processing of PCB designs leaving this critical link in the design chain a completely manual, and error-prone task. With the introduction of CAM350 XL, the key pieces required for taking a virtual design and producing all the deliverables to make a physical PCB are integrated in one single solution. This is a quantum leap in improving post-processing where historically, users have had to rely on multiple disparate tools, or make do with the sub-par functionality found in most PCB CAD systems.”
WALTHAM, MA -- Nearly 50 PCB fabricators, CAD software tool suppliers, PCB fab material and equipment suppliers and PCB/PCBA service providers will exhibit their latest products and services at the 14th annual PCB East this week.

SEOUL, KOREA – Samsung Electro-Mechanics (SEM) reports that it has developed the world’s first MLCC with a capacitance value of 1 μF in a 0603 package.

The product offers 10 times the capacitance of a standard 0603 0.1μF MLCC and is 80% smaller than the 1005 1μF version, according to the company.

Driven by increase demands for handheld products, SEM is focusing its resources on the ultra-small segments. It has tripled output capacity for MLCCs in 0603 and smaller packages.

Hur Kang-heon, vice president of the SEM LCR Development Team, said, “Our development of this new MLCC version allows us to lead the market for value-added MLCCs, and we are targeting makers of smartphones, which are in very high demand right now, and other B2B segments.”

Mass production is planned for April.
SANTA CLARA and FREMONT, CA – Alta Manufacturing and Alta Via Technologies have entered into an exclusive agreement to develop and implement an innovative technology roadmap.

Utilizing a combination of methodology, software and assembly equipment, the roadmap will advance the layout and fabrication of complex PCBs.

Alta Via will relocate its PCB layout group to the Alta Manufacturing facility in Fremont.

Alta Manufacturing CEO Craig Arcuri noted, “The opportunity to really integrate layout through fabrication and assembly under one common technology umbrella represents tremendous opportunities to reduce the cycle times across the board, while simultaneously and dramatically increasing the quality and traceability of products.”
