NOMI, ISHIKAWA PREF., JAPAN – Murata Manufacturing has acquired Sony's PCB fabrication here as part of its plans to expand capacity for circuit boards for smartphones.

Murata plans to spend ¥30 billion to ¥40 billion ($268 million to $358 million), which will be used to double capacity at the site. Kanazawa Murata Manufacturing, a wholly owned subsidiary of Murata, will operate the plant, according to the Japan Times.

Murata reportedly also produces circuit boards for smartphones in Toyama Prefecture.
