LONDON -- Alent chief executive Steve Corbett has resigned, ending a nearly 25-year career with the materials company.

Rick Ertmann, president of Alent’s Assembly Materials division, has been named interim chief executive while the company's board recruits a permanent successor.

Corbett joined Cookson Group in 1990, holding various senior management roles before becoming president and CEO of Cookson’s Performance Materials division in 2004. He became chief executive of Alent on its demerger from Cookson in December 2012. 

Ertmann joined what is now the Assembly Materials Division in 1987, and held successively the positions of executive vice president Asia-Pacific, Europe and then the Americas, before becoming president of the Assembly Materials division in 2008. he has a bachelor’s in marketing and has attended the Harvard Business School. 

In a statement, Alent chairman Peter Hill said, “I would like to thank Steve for his 24 years with Cookson and Alent. He stabilized the business, developed and grew it, and oversaw Alent’s transition into becoming a publicly traded, specialty chemicals company. Since Alent’s separate listing, Steve has played an important role in laying the groundwork for its long term future, and we wish him all success in his future endeavours. The board looks forward to working with Rick Ertmann in the interim, as we take Alent to the next stages of its development.”
